      "Burn" (39th Anniversary Edition') CD & 2LP # 27 September 2004

Hi Fans, good news from EMI RECORDS to the "Burn (39th Anniversary Edition') Many thanks to EMI and Irene!! EMI RECORDS NEW RELEASE DEEP PURPLE 'Burn (39th Anniversary Edition') CD & 2LP Release Date: 27 September 2004 EMI Records are proud to announce the release of a special Anniversary Edition of Deep Purple's classic album 'Burn' on CD and double vinyl formats. The remastering and the bonus remixes put new life back into the studio tracks and demonstrate the sheer strength of this third Deep Purple line-up of Glenn Hughes (vocals & bass - his first album with the band), David Coverdale (vocals - his first album with the band), Ian Paice (drums), Ritchie Blackmore (Guitar), Jon Lord (Keyboards). Every track has a story behind it, engagingly described by the band members in the accompanying sleevenotes. For example, the powerful riff of title track 'Burn' owed a large tip of the hat in the direction of George Gershwin's 'Fascinating Rhythm', though Ritchie claimed it was an accident: "I came up with the riff on the spur of the moment while we were jamming. Jon took a tape home a few days later and his wife at the time pointed out the similarity. Maybe subconsciously I was playing that but it worked very well." The track 'Might Just Take Your Life' was according to David, influenced by 'Chest Fever' by The Band and "...tells the story of how Glenn and myself managed to arrive and find ourselves in Purple. A mid-paced song with a funky blues feel, David takes the lead vocal on the first two verses, Glenn the third." David admitted at the time that 'Sail Away' "was one track the whole group got very much involved with and we do have some stand up rows. It shows the direction of the band, this rock-funk mood". The recording of the tracks are similarly well described. For example, closing track, 'A' 200', an instrumental played to a 'Bolero' rhythm, was written in Montreux and builds slowly, with Jon playing the lead on multi-tracked synthesizer. "Ritchie, seemingly not required for the rest of the track, then bursts in with possibly, after 'Mistreated', his finest solo on the album, only to disappear again before the track closes with Jon's synth work being slowly panned across the channels."
