Aus einem Jon Lord-Interview von 1989: What modifications have been to it? (gegenüber der Hammond aus den alten Tagen) Not much, actually. One thing that was done- do you remember a piano company called RMI?- I had one of their units built into my Hammond by amazing man, Mike Phillips. He used to go on tour with us and he could mend everything. The way a Hammond triggers a sound is exactly the same way as a RMI piano works. Mike put the guts of a RMI into the bottom of the C-3 and then hooked it into the keyboards. This modification enables me to bend harpsichord and loop sounds with organ sounds. It creates some nice effects and enables me to get the Jon Lord-y sound. My Hammond has a ring modulator from the old Gibson Maestro company. I bought six of them as soon as they stopped of them. I’m only on the second one-I still have four brand-new ones left in their original packages. The ring modulator operates as the central volume for the whole organ. There’s volume, pitch and modulation controls on it. If I really want to crank it, the ring modulator gives me the overdrive sound. http://www.thehighwaystar.com/interviews/lord/jl19890100.html Interessanterweise hat Steve Morse JL Mitte der neunziger Jahre davon überzeugt, alles aus der Hammond auszubauen, was ursprünglich nicht drin war, weil Steve der Orgelsound der achtziger Jahre nicht gefiel. Jon stimmte dem zu.

Hi, ich weiß zwar nicht ganz, was Du mit dem speziellen Hammondsound auf PS meinst, aber man sollte berücksichtigen, dass auf Studioaufnahmen die Orgel tlw. auch mehrspurig aufgenommen wurde und somit deutliche Fülle bekommt (siehe auch DVD zu The Making of MH). Die ganzen Umbauten an der Hammond haben m.E. nicht allzuviel gebracht, allerdings die Verwendung des Ringmodulators. Der kam aber (fast) nur Live zum Einsatz, sehr oft in der MK II und III-Ära. Hör Dir mal die tlw. brutalen Orgelsounds auf Mark III-The final concerts an. Das fette Intro zu PS ist m.E. Hammond pur, ich bekomme es zumindest mit meiner C3 über ein 770er und einem davorgeschalteten Reußenzehn Organmaster mit etwas Hall weitgehend hin. Ich bin mir allerdings nicht sicher, ob JL nach der Reunion auch weiterhin neben den Leslies die Hammond über straight-speekers hat laufen lassen.
